8 Clever Hints Tricks and Hacks for a Kia Soul EV

Yes, a Kia Soul EV is a fabulous EV.  It’s very practical, cheaper to run compared to petrol-powered cars thanks to its batteries, and is much much better for the environment.

After a while though, it’s always nice to improve your Kia Soul EV a little further though.  Well, we’ve gathered together some of the best car hacks for a Kia Soul EV to make it even more awesome than what it was before!

We are sure that you’ll find a fantastic hack or handy tip here that will make you love your Kia Soul EV even more!

Dehumidify your Kia Soul EV

We all know the situation.  You wake up on a morning while rushing around to get ready to leave for work.  You’re in a rush and then you jump in the car to leave for the day.   You sit in the driver’s seat, look up at the windscreen, and you are met with a completely misted-up pane of glass.

You put the heater and fan on full blast and wait for the screen to clear.  This isn’t ideal when you are in a rush as it always seems to take longer when you are watching it.

Well, with the handy tip below, your misted-up windscreen days will be a thing of the past.  Why not add something just below the windscreen to prevent the condensation from appearing in the first place?

All you will need is an old sock and some cat litter.  Follow the steps below:

  1. Find an old sock that matches as close to your Kia Soul EV dashboard color.  This is so that this cool bit of kit doesn’t look too unsightly.
  2. Take the sock and fill three-quarters of it with cat litter.
  3. Tie a knot in the top of the sock so that the cat litter can’t escape.
  4. Place the sock on the dashboard.

Remember that the sock only needs to be on the dashboard on an evening when you know that you are due to cold weather.

This trick works as cat litter is very dry and porous.  The sock and cat litter will naturally dehumidify the air as the porous nature of the rocks will absorb any additional moisture from the air and naturally store it in the rocks.

As the temperature of the car rises, the sock will slowly release the moisture back into the air which will naturally escape as you are using the car.

Rattle-free and dirt-free cup holders for Kia Soul EV

The cup holders in a Kia Soul EV are great.  However, there are two issues with all cup holders no matter what EV you drive.

  1. Cup holders always fill up with dirt and dust that is hard to clean.
  2. Cups and bottles rattle around in most cup holders as they usually don’t fit correctly.

Trying to maintain the cleanliness of cup holders is a struggle and it doesn’t seem to matter how much you try to wipe the coffee stains or crumbs found in the corner of the holder, you can never quite get your microfibre cloth in there well enough.

Also, as cup holders are a fixed size and given that there is an almost infinite number of different size bottles and cup widths out there, finding a cup that matches the size of the holder is very tricky.  If it doesn’t fit perfectly, the bottle or couple will move around causing a plastic rattling noise.  Very irritating for you as a driver!

All of these issues can be resolved by using a silicone cupcake case!

Simply place the silicone cupcake case into the cup holder and your problem will be solved.

As these are made of silicone, your cup and bottle will grip the case and no longer move around, removing the rattle completely.

Also, the cupcake holder will fill the sides and base of the cup holder, thus capturing any spills or crumbs.  Cleaning the cup holder is as simple as removing the silicone cupcake case from your Kia Soul EV cupholder and giving it a wash under some hot soapy water.

Lining Kia Soul EV door bins to stop rattles

The door bins in a Kia Soul EV are great.  However, there are two issues with all door bins no matter what EV you drive.

  1. Door bins always fill up with dirt and dust that is hard to clean.
  2. Cups and bottles rattle around in most cup holders as they usually don’t fit correctly.

All of these issues can be resolved by using a silicone sheet!

Simply cut a strip of the silicone cupcake strip into the size and shape of your Kia Soul EV door bins (it doesn’t have to be exact).  Place the silicone sheet into the door bins and your problem will be solved.

Kia Soul EV Carabiner headrest hooks

We know the issue, you have popped out in your Kia Soul EV to grab a few things from the store.  You return to your car but you don’t want to place the single bag in the trunk as when you return home, you know that the food items will be spread all over the trunk.

You decide to put it in your Kia Soul EV footwells, as these are smaller and will likely keep the bag upright.  You know that this is just going to spill again though.

What you need is a hook to hang the bag handles from, however, where can you find a hook in a Kia Soul EV?

The answer is to leave a carabiner or D-ring to the headrest bar on the front driver’s seat.

This is strong enough to hold the weight of the bag.

It’s also got a large enough catch to keep a grip on the bag handles.

By using this trick, you can drive your Kia Soul EV knowing that the contents from your shopping trip isn’t going to be spread all over the interior of your car when you pull up outside of your house!

Kia Soul EV heated seat pizza warmer hack

Pizza is a dish best served hot, I think that we could all agree with that.  Pizza from a pizza shop is some of the tastiest pizza that you can get.

The trouble is that when you go to collect it, by the time you get it back to your house, it might have dropped below that optimum temperature.

It’s at times like these when you need to put your Kia Soul EV to action (if your Nissan comes with the heated seat option that is)!

Simply turn on the passenger heated seat just as you set off to the pizza shop.  It should be nice and toasty just as you collect the pizza.  All that is left to do is place your pizza box on your seat and keep it nice and warm as you travel back home.

The final step is to kick back and enjoy your deliciously warm pizza!

Fix dents with a plunger on your Kia Soul EV

It’s amazing how many little dings on a car’s bodywork can occur over the years.  These are usually caused by doors from other cars accidentally tapping your car when parked in car parks.  The resultant minor ding is really annoying given that it wasn’t your fault.

Well, a simple trick is to use a plumber’s plunger to suction onto the paintwork and then pop the bodywork back into its original shape.

A short checklist of what to do is:

  1. Thoroughly clean the bodywork around the area of the dent before attempting this.  Ensure that all contaminants are removed from the paintwork.
  2. Clean the plunger head.
  3. Ensure that there is no rough edges or grit on the plunger head to cause further damage to the paintwork on your Kia Soul EV.
  4. Ensure that the plunger head is wet before placing it on the paintwork.  This is to ensure that a good level of suction is created.
  5. Push the plunger down gently onto the bodywork of the Kia Soul EV, taking car not to damage the paint.
  6. Gently pull the plunger back, to pop the ding out.  You may need to repeat this process a few times to fully remove the dent.

Please note that this hack only works on flat areas of the bodywork.  It will not work on creases or curves in the bodywork.

Major dents in your Kia Soul EV will need to be taken to a bodywork specialist for removal.

Make a glove box kit for your Kia Soul EV

Glove boxes or glove compartments are one of the most underutilized areas in a car.  They are used for either just storing your sunglasses and car manual or used a bin to hold all of your detritus.

Why not put them to great use and make them a portable emergency stash of items that you always carry around with you when driving your Kia Soul EV?

You never know what is going to happen when you are on the road.  Perhaps your Kia Soul EV will break down, or run out of batteries, or you may have an accident.  It is times like these when your Kia Soul EV glove box kit is going to come into its own.

First of all, purchase a small document bag.  Check out the latest prices on Amazon.

Perhaps store the following items into the bag:

  • Insurance documents.
  • Car license.
  • Emergency cash.
  • A credit card.
  • Emergency contact information.
  • Spare phone.
  • Spare phone charging cable and power bank.
  • Some spare coins for road tolls or parking meters.

Polish Kia Soul EV headlights with toothpaste

As time goes by your Kia Soul EV headlights are bound to begin to show their age.  When this happens, the transparent plastic on the headlights begins to “cloud” or “fog” up.

This is just due to dirt, dust, and other contaminants reacting and scuffing up the plastic.

There are many products on the car detailing market that is specifically designed to polish the headlights.  The only problem is, that these products are reasonably expensive and unless you have a fleet of cars to clean, the majority of that cleaning product will go to waste.

The solution to this is to use a product that we all have ready access to at home – toothpaste.

Toothpaste contains small, abrasive particles that are ideal for cleaning the surface of your Kia Soul EV headlights.

Follow the steps below to restore your Kia Soul EV headlights back to how they were when they left the forecourt of the dealership.

  1. Clean the surface of the headlights using regular car shampoo and a clean sponge.
  2. Dry the headlights and surrounding bodywork with a clean cloth or towel.
  3. Apply a 1inch line of toothpaste to the headlight.
  4. Using a clean microfibre cloth, work the toothpaste into the surface of the headlight in small circular motions.  Continue until the entire headlight has been covered (take care not to polish the paintwork of your Kia Soul EV).
  5. Once complete, use a sponge with warm water to remove the toothpaste or use a power washer.

Your Kia Soul EV will now be back to its best.
