How to watch Netflix, YouTube in a Audi e-tron

Although the infotainment system with a Audi e-tron is great, the one area that really lets it down when compared to other EVs such as a Tesla, is that you can’t catchup on your YouTube subscriptions, favorite movies etc.  If only there was a way to add this functionality without waiting for Ford to provide it via a software update.  Well, now there is, and all you need is an Android smartphone and Android Auto

Wouldn’t it be great to be able to sit back and relax to watch your favorite TV shows, movies and YouTube channels while you are charging your Audi e-tron?

The even better news is that the process below doesn’t rely on having to jailbreak your phone, which is often the case when attempting to perform a similar process on an iPhone for Apple Car Play.

We do not recommend that you should watch videos while driving.  Your attention should be on the road and not your infotainment system.  Please drive responsibly.

Step 1: On your Android smartphone, open your web browser and go to the following website:

This takes you to a Github repository for an app called Android Auto Apps Downloader (AAAD).  This application allows you to download 3rd party Auto Android apps that allow you to watch content on your Audi e-tron touchscreen.

The app does not require you to install an APK file from a different webpage, root your smartphone or enable developer options.

Step 2: Scroll down the page and select the GO TO DOWNLOAD link.

Step 3: Locate the latest version of AAAD on the webpage and select the APK file (see screenshot below – note the version on your webpage will likely differ).

You may see a message pop up on your screen saying “This type of file can harm your devices.  Do you want to keep AAAD-x.x.x release.apk anyway?”

Select Ok and then Open.

Step 4: You may see the message, “For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source.”

Select Settings and then enable “Allow from this source”.

Step 5: You will see a message saying, “Do you want to install this application?”

Select Install.

Android Auto Apps Downloader will now have installed on your device.

Select Open.

Step 6: The first time that Android Auto Apps Downloader runs you will see a message saying “Before proceeding, you have to enable the installation from unknown sources…”

Select Ok.

From the next screen select AAAD and then enable Allow from this source.

Step 7: From your home screen, select AAAD to reopen the app.  AAAD will now be fully operational.

Using AAAD to watch Netflix, YouTube & Hulu on your Audi e-tron

AAAD allows you to download 3rd party Android Auto apps onto your phone that enable you to perform particular tasks.

Please note that the free version of AAAD will only allow you to download one application initially.  To download a second app you will either have to wait one calendar month or upgrade to the Pro account.

Fermata Auto – YouTube & Movies

AAAD allows you to download a 3rd party app called Fermata Auto among others.  The cool thing about Fermata Auto is that is has built in support for playing back YouTube as well as other movie files on your smartphone to your Audi e-tron.

It even has a built-in web browser.

You can use your touchscreen on your Audi e-tron to navigate around the Fermata Auto application.

Watching Netflix and Disney+ in your Audi e-tron

Netflix and Disney+ don’t provide any compatible Android Auto applications for use on your Audi e-tron, however, there is a way around this.

Instead of downloading a multimedia application such as Fermata Auto, use AAAD to download a screen mirror application such as Screen2Auto or AA Mirror.

This application will allow you to mirror your phone screen while using Android Auto on your car’s infotainment system.

Therefore, you’ll be able to sit back and relax in your Audi e-tron while you enjoy a well earned break or even when you are waiting for your car to recharge.

You could even use AAAD to allow you to watch other streaming services such as Hulu and HBO Max.

Android Auto Apps Downloader (AAAD) compatibility

At the time of writing, Android Auto Apps Downloader (AAAD) is compatible with many versions of Android and Android Auto.

It isn’t currently compatible with Android 7.x/8.x devices.

AAAD isn’t compatible with Android Auto 7 and above when running on Android 12.
